Martin Luther King on a Horse

2004 – 2008

In 2007 Badgley Arnoux was moved to create the powerful painting Black Man on a Black Horse symbolically depicting Martin Luther King, Jr. sitting on a horse, reminiscent of a knight in shining armor. Surrounded by historical motifs that evoke the history of American racism, the scene is also set adjacent to the Lincoln Memorial which captures Dr. King’s strength and vulnerability.
