India: A Journey to the Senses
2000
In 2000, Badgley Arouux left her Bryant Street studio and moved into a studio on Townsend Street a few blocks away, which she shared with her sculptor-husband Harold Kozloff for the next decade. That same year Kozloff and Badgley Arnoux traveled together to India, where her attraction to the pulsing street life and vibrant color aligned with her long involvement with San Francisco street life.
While in India, she created numerous watercolor paintings of the vibrant street scenes and daily life along the Ganges River. Later in that year, Badgley Arnoux and Kozloff had a two-person exhibition of her paintings and his steel sculptures titled Silk and Steel at The Kalart Gallery, a space dedicated to Indian art and artists, located in San Francisco’s North Beach district. Proceeds from the exhibition were donated to The Mapintee Foundation, which benefited the street children of India.
